XML DOM - Element Object hasAttribute Method

Hello folks! welcome back to a new edition of our tutorial on XML DOM. In this tutorial, we will be discussing about the XML DOM Element Object hasAttribute Method.

The XML DOM Element Object hasAttribute Method returns true when an attribute with a given name is specified on this element or has a default value, otherwise false.

The following below is the syntax to use the Element Object hasAttribute method -

Parameter Details

S.No.Parameter & Description

It is a string representing the name of the attribute.

Return Value

This method returns a boolean value true or false.

Following are the node_ns.xml contents -

<?xml version = "1.0"?>
   <Employee xmlns:e = "http://www.webdesigntutorialz.com/technical/" category = "technical">
      <e:FirstName e:lang = "en">Kennedy</e:FirstName>
   <Employee xmlns:n = "http://www.webdesigntutorialz.com/non-technical/" category = "non-technical">
      <n:FirstName n:lang = "en">Stephanie</n:FirstName>

The below example illustrates the usage of the Element Object hasAttribute method -

<!DOCTYPE html>
         function loadXMLDoc(filename) {
            if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {
               xhttp = new XMLHttpRequest();
            } else // code for IE5 and IE6 {
               xhttp = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
            return xhttp.responseXML;
         xmlDoc = loadXMLDoc("/dom/node_ns.xml");
         x = xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("Employee")[0];
         document.write("value for hasattribute is: "+x.hasAttribute("category"));

Save this file as elementmethod_hasattribute.html on the server path (this file and the node_ns.xml should be on the same path in your server). This is going to give us the following output below -

value for hasattribute is: true
