Hello folks! welcome back to a new edition of our tutorial on XML DOM. In this tutorial, we will be discussing about the XML DOM Attribute Object isId Attribute.
The Attribute Object isId Attribute returns true if an attribute is known to be of type ID (that is to contain an identifier for its owner element), else it returns false.
The Attribute Object isId Attribute returns true if an attribute is known to be of type ID (that is to contain an identifier for its owner element), else it returns false.
Syntax
The following below is the syntax to use the Attribute Object isId Attribute -
attrObject.isId
Return Value
It returns true if an attribute is known to be of type ID, else it returns false.
Example
Following are the node.xml contents -
<?xml version = "1.0" encoding = "UTF-8" standalone = "no" ?> <Company> <Employee category = "Technical" id = "firstelement"> <FirstName>Kennedy</FirstName> <LastName>Nkpara</LastName> <ContactNo>1234567890</ContactNo> <Email>kennedynkpara@xyz.com</Email> </Employee> <Employee category = "Non-Technical"> <FirstName>Stephanie</FirstName> <LastName>Francis</LastName> <ContactNo>1234667898</ContactNo> <Email>stephaniefrancis@xyz.com</Email> </Employee> <Employee category = "Management"> <FirstName>Justice</FirstName> <LastName>Douglas</LastName> <ContactNo>1234562350</ContactNo> <Email>justicedouglas@xyz.com</Email> </Employee> </Company>
The following example illustrates the usage of the Attribute Object isId attribute -
<!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <script> function loadXMLDoc(filename) { if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { xhttp = new XMLHttpRequest(); } else // code for IE5 and IE6 { xhttp = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } xhttp.open("GET",filename,false); xhttp.send(); return xhttp.responseXML; } </script> </head> <body> <script> xmlDoc = loadXMLDoc("/dom/node.xml"); x = xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName('Employee'); document.write("Specifies if attribute have the ID specified for its owner element or not : "); document.write("<br>"); document.write(x.item(0).attributes[0].isId); </script> </body> </html>
Output
Save this file as attributeobject_isid.html on the server's path (this file and the node.xml should be on the same path in your server). This is going to give us the following output below -
Specifies if attribute have the ID specified for its owner element or not : undefined
