XML DOM - lookupNamespaceURI Method

Hello folks! welcome back to a new edition of our tutorial on XML DOM. In this tutorial, we are going to be studying about the XML DOM lookupNamespaceURI Method.

The lookupNamespaceURI method gets the URI of the namespace associated with the namespace prefix, beginning from current node.

The following below is the syntax to use the lookupNamespaceURI Method -

Parameter Details

S.No.Parameter & Description

Based on this parameter namespace uri is return if present any. It is of type DOMString.

Return Value

This XML DOM method returns associated namespace URI or null if none is found.

Following below are the node.xml contents -

<?xml version = "1.0"?>
   <Employee category = "Technical">
   <Employee category = "Non-Technical">
   <Employee category = "Management">

The following example illustrates the usage of the lookupNamespaceURI method -

<!DOCTYPE html>
         function loadXMLDoc(filename) {
            if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {
               xhttp = new XMLHttpRequest();
            } else // code for IE5 and IE6 {
               xhttp = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
            return xhttp.responseXML;
         xmlDoc = loadXMLDoc("/dom/node_ns.xml");

         y = xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("Employee")[0];
         document.write("lookupNameSpaceURI is : ")

Save this file as nodemethod_lookupnamespaceuri.html on the server's path (this file and node.xml should be on the same path in your server). This gives us the following output below -

lookupNameSpaceURI is : http://www.webdesigntutorialz.com/technical/
