Hello folks! welcome back to a new edition of our tutorial on PHP. In this tutorial guide, we are going to be studying about the PHP number_format() Function.

The PHP number_format() function formats a number with grouped thousands.

syntax

Following below is the syntax to use this function -

number_format(num,decimals,decimal_pt,separator)


Parameter Details

num

It contains the information about number to be formatted.

decimals

Specifies how many decimals.

decimal_pt

It specifies what string to use for decimal point.

separator

It specifies what string to use to separate the thousands of strings.


Return Value

This function returns the formatted string.

Example

Try out the example below -

<?php
   $input = 100.9;
   $formattednum = number_format($input)."<br>";
   echo $formattednum;
   
   $formattednum = number_format($input, 2);
   echo $formattednum;
?>

Output

When the above code is executed, it will produce the following result -

101
100.90
