PHP GregorianToJD() Function

Hello folks! welcome back to a new edition of our tutorial on PHP. In this tutorial guide, we are going to be studying about the PHP GregorianToJD() Function.

The built-in PHP GregorianToJD() function converts a Gregorian date to the Julian day count. Valid range for Gregorian Calendar is 4714 B.C. to 9999 A.D.


Following below is the syntax to use this function -

gregoriantojd ( $month, $day, $year );

Parameter Details

Sr.NoParameter & Description


The month as a number from 1 (for January) to 12 (for December)



The day as a number from 1 to 31



The year as a number between -4714 and 9999

Return Value

This function returns the Julian day for the given gregorian date as an integer.


Try out the below example -

     $jd = gregoriantojd(8, 11, 2019);
   echo "$jd";
   print "\n";
   $gregorian = jdtogregorian($jd);
   echo "$gregorian";
   print "\n";


When the above code is executed, it will produce the following result -
