The PHP array_rand() function picks one or more random entries out of an array.

Syntax

Following below is the syntax to use this function -

array_rand ( $input [, $num_req] );


Parameter Details

It specifies an array.

num_req(Optional)

It specifies how many entries you want to pick - if not specified, it defaults to 1.


Return Value

This PHP function returns an array of keys for the random entries.

Example

Try out the below example -

   $input = array("a"=>"banana","b"=>"apple","c"=>"orange");
   
   print_r(array_rand($input));
?> 

Output

When the above code is executed, it will produce the following result -

b
