Python os.unlink() Method with example

Hello dear readers! Welcome back to another section of our tutorial on Python. In this tutorial guide, we are going to be studying about the Os unlink() method.

The Python os unlink() method removes the file path. If the path is a directory, OSError is raised.

The following below is the syntax for Python Os unlink() method -

os.unlink( path )

Parameter Details

  • path - This is the path which is to be removed.

Return Value

It does not return any value.

The following below is a simple example -

# !/usr/bin/python

import os, sys

# listing directories
print "The dir is: %s" %os.listdir(os.getcwd())

# listing directories after removing path
print "The dir after removal of path : %s" %os.listdir(os.getcwd())

When the above code is executed, it will produce the following result -

The dir is:
 [ 'a1.txt','aa.txt','resume.doc','a3.py','tutorialsdir','amrood.admin' ]
The dir after removal of path :
[ 'a1.txt','resume.doc','a3.py','tutorialsdir','amrood.admin' ]
