Python File isatty() Method with example



Hello guys! Welcome back to another section of my tutorial on Python. In this tutorial guide, we are going to be discussing about Python File isatty() method.

Python file isatty() method returns True if the file is connected to a tty (-like) device, else False.  

Syntax

The following below is the syntax for Python File isatty() method -

fileObject.isatty( );


Parameter Details

  • NA

Return Value

This method returns True if the file is connected to a tty (-like) device, else it returns False.

Example

The following below is a simple example -

#!/usr/bin/python

# Open a file
fo = open("foo.txt", "wb")
print "Name of the file: ", fo.name

ret = fo.isatty()
print "Return value : ", ret

# Close opend file
fo.close()

Output
When the above code is executed, it will produce the following result -

Name of the file:  foo.txt
Return value :  False
