Python Dictionary get() Method with example

Hello dear readers! Welcome back to another edition of our tutorial on Python. In this tutorial guide, we are going to be studying about the Python Dictionary get() method.

Python Dictionary get() method returns a value for the given key. If the key is not available then it returns the default value None.

Syntax

The following below is the syntax for the Python Dictionary get() method -

dict.get(key,  default = None )

Parameter Details

• key - Key to be searched for in the dictionary.

• default - This is the value to be returned in case key does not exist.

Return Value

It returns a value for the given key. If the key is not available, then it returns default value None.

Example

The following below is a simple example -

#!/usr/bin/python

dict = {'Name': 'Paul', 'Age': 20}
print "Value : %s" %  dict.get('Age')
print "Value : %s" %  dict.get('Education', "Never")

Output

Below is the output of the above example -

Value : 20
Value : Never
