WordPress Spam Protection

Hello dear readers! Welcome back to another edition of our tutorial on WordPress. In this tutorial post, we will be discussing about how to protect your WordPress blog from spam.

Be sure to update your WordPress script to the latest stable version. WordPress always comes with a preinstalled anti-spam solution - Akismet.

You can activate the preinstalled Akismet solution, for which you should have a WordPress API key. You have to register at the official WordPress website. It will be sent directly to your email.

Following below are the simple steps on how to enable Akismet Spam Protection plugin for your blog or website.

Step 1 - Click on the Plugins → Installed. The screen below should be displayed.

Step 2 - Click on the Activate button as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 3 - The Akismet plugin will be activated, click on Activate your Akismet account button as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 4 - Click on Get your API key as seen in the below screenshot to get a new key. Incase you already have an API key, what you have to do is to enter it manually.

Step 5 - If you do not have an API key, click on GET AN AKISMET API KEY tab to proceed.

Step 6 - Fill out the required fields and click on the Sign up button as shown in the screen below.

Step 7 - Soon as you complete the signup process. You are going to get an API key sent to your email. Enter API key manually and click on Use this key button as shown below.

Step 8 - If you have entered a correct API key, it will be verified and you will get a confirmation message as reflected in the screen below.

Step 9 - Now your blog is going to be protected from Spam by the Akismet solution. You are going to be able to check the comments in your blog for Spam, and manually mark comments as Spam from the blog admin area → Comments.

You can keep a track of how many Spam posts have been stopped by Akismet and you can also secure your posts, blogs, comments, etc.
