How to Properly Update WordPress to the Latest Version

Hello guys! Welcome back to another section of my tutorial on WordPress. In this tutorial post, i will be giving you guys the step by step guide on how to Update a WordPress Version.

In this tutorial post, we are going to be updating WordPress to the latest version through Admin Panel.

Following below are the simple steps on how to update the WordPress version.

Step 1 - Click on Please Update Now as shown in the screenshot below.

You are going to get notifications in admin panel when there is a newer available version. Before updating, it is advised to first do a backup.

Step 2 - After you click on the update link, then the following page will be displayed. Click on the Update Now button.

Step 3 - The following message gets displayed while updating.

Note - While updating the version, if you get an error as

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in C:\your wordpress folder\wp-includes\class-http.php on line 1597

then you need to take the following actions -

  • Open your WordPress folder → the wp-includes folder
  • Open class-http.php file and add the following line at the beginning -set_time_limit(0);
  • Save the file.

Now your WordPress is successfully updated.
