How to Customize WordPress Theme

Hello dear readers! Welcome back to another edition of our tutorial on WordPress. In this tutorial guide, i will be sharing with you guys how you can successfully Customize Themes in WordPress.

Customizing themes helps you to give your site a brand new look. Here you are able to change the background images/colors, titles and do much more.

The following are the simple steps on how to Customize themes -

Step 1 - Click on Appearance → Customize.

Step 2 - The following screen will be displayed.

As seen, on the left hand side we have the customizing section, and on the right side we've the theme you have selected. Any changes you make on the left hand side will be displayed on the right hand side of the page. Here are few options you must know -

Active theme - In this section, you can change the current theme just by clicking on Change.

When you click on Change you will get a list of themes, click on any of the themes, then click on Save & Continue to save your theme.

Site Title and Tagline - In this section, you can add the site title and tagline that you want to add to your website.

Add your title name in the Site Title section. Add your tagline in the Tagline box.

Colors - your header text color can be changed using this section. As you scroll through all the colors, you find changes happening at the right side of the page. You can as well add your own color into the box that is found in between the Current color and Default.

Header Image - You can add a header image by selecting from the suggestions or you can add an image of your choice by clicking on the Add new image.

Widgets - Add widgets to your site from here.

When you click on the arrow mark by the right hand side, the image below appears.

Here, there are two options -

The first is the Main Widget Area, when you click on this you get another list of widgets that are to be displayed on the footer area.

When you then click on any of the widgets, you will see another drop down shown, where you can edit more or add more. For example, if you want to add categories then the following image will appear.

In this image, as you can see, you can add your categories in Title section. Check any of the required boxes. If you do not want to add any of them, then click on Remove. Same goes for the other widgets too.

Secondary Widget - Here you must click on Add a widget and you will get a side bar with the list of different widgets. Click on any of them and it will be added to your list of widgets.

If you want to add more widgets, then click on Add a widget again and you can add more widgets based on your requirements.

Static Fronts - Select either latest posts or static front page for your site.

Alright guys! This is where we are rounding up for this tutorial. In our next tutorial post, we are going to be discussing about the Widget Management.
