How to Configure WordPress Reading Settings

Hello dear readers! Welcome back to another edition of our tutorial on WordPress. In this tutorial, we are going to be discussing about the WordPress Reading Settings and how you can properly configure it.

Read Settings is used to set the content related to the front page. You can set the number of posts that is to be displayed on the front page.

Following below are the steps to access the reading settings -

Step 1 - Click on the Settings → Reading option in WordPress.

Step 2 - The Reading Settings page will be displayed as shown in the screenshot below -

Following below are the details of the fields that is found on reading settings.

  • Front page displays - Field is used in displaying the front page in any of the formats below.
    • Your latest posts - This shows your latest post on the front page.
    • A static page - This is is used to show all the static pages on the site front page.
    • Front Page - You can select the actual pages you want to display on the front page from the drop down.
    • Post Page - You select the page from the drop down that contains the posts.
  • Blog pages show at most - The number of the posts to be shown per page or site. By default, it is set to 10.
  • Syndication feeds show the most recent - The users can view the number of posts when they download one of the site's feeds. By default, it is set to 10.
  • For each article in the feed Show - This section is used for displaying the posts, by selecting any of the formats below -
    • Full Text - It displays the complete post. It is set as default.
    • Summary - It displays the summary of the post.
  • Search Engine Visibility - After clicking this checkbox, "Discourage Search Engines from indexing this site", your site will be ignored by search engInes crawlers.


Step 3 - After filling all the needed information, then click on the Save Changes button to save your Reading Settings information.
