The Permalink is a permanent link to a specific blog post or category. It makes it possible to be able to change the default permalink structure. These settings are used in adding permalinks to your posts in WordPress.
Following are the steps to access the permalink settings -
Step 1 - Click on the Settings → Permalink option.

Step 1 - Click on the Settings → Permalink option.

Step 2 - When you now click on the Permalink option, the Permalink page appears as shown below.
Following below are the settings you can make on this page-
- Common settings - Check any of the Check box in order to choose your permalink structure for your site.
- Default - This sets the default URL structure.
- Day and name - It sets the URL structure of your site based on the date and name in your posts.
- Month and name - It sets the URL structure of your site based on the month and name in your posts.
- Numeric - This is used to sets numbers in the URL structure in your posts.
- Post name - This sets post name in the URL structure in your posts.
- Custom Structure - It is used in setting the URL structure that you want by writing the desired name into the the given text box.
- Optional - These are optional setting. You can add custom struture for main category or tag URL. If your text box is empty, the default settings is made use of. Here we have two options -
- Category Based - Adds custom prefix for your category URL.
- Tag Base - This adds custom prefix to your tag URL.

Step 3 - Once you are done with all the changes, you can click on the Save Changes button to save the Permalink Settings.
